Corseul and the Romans



Corseul was the capital of the Coriosolite people and the biggest city of the greater West in Roman times.
So come and discover the intriguing ruins of a Roman Gaul city.
The Coriosolites were mentioned by Julius Caesar in his commentaries on the war with the Gauls (57 B.C.).

Threatened by the emperor Augustus, they built their civitas (type of Roman settlement) with its fanum martis (the Mars temple).
